Applications Engineer

About The Position

This critical role will focus on developing accurate and competitive quotations for New / Duplicate / Replacement pumps and/or parts requests from the PumpMan outside sales representative and/or direct customer requests. This role will deal directly with multiple suppliers and market segments including Municipal Commercial and Industrial and be expected to multitask as needed to support the request in terms of SCOPE and response time. This role will also be responsible for coordinating any resulting order with Purchasing and Operations personnel. Lastly, the position will also interface with our Project management system and be expected to keep all the tasks updated as needed. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of well and water systems, including their equipment and applications. You will collaborate closely with our sales and service teams, playing a key role in securing projects and contributing to our continued growth. Key Responsibilities: Perform all duties with a Safety-First mentality. Collaborate with clients—including municipal utilities, industrial plants, engineering consultants, and contractors—to assess pump system needs and recommend optimal equipment solutions. Interpret technical specifications and drawings, develop customized proposals, and present solutions for water and wastewater treatment, water distribution, process industries, and related applications. Prepare accurate technical documentation and quotations while ensuring compliance with regulatory, industry, and client standards. Serve as a liaison among sales representatives, equipment manufacturers, internal teams, and customers throughout project evaluation, bidding, order entry, and project delivery stages. Provide guidance during installation/startup, troubleshoot operational challenges, and coordinate resolution of complex technical issues—sometimes requiring site visits. Stay informed about market trends, emerging technologies, and competitor offerings across the water and industrial landscapes. Support sales training and development, helping sales staff interpret technical requirements and communicating value propositions to end users. Build and maintain relationships with clients and manufacturers to promote solutions and expand market presence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Environmental Engineering (or related technical discipline).
  • Solid working knowledge of pump hydraulics, fluid handling systems, water/wastewater treatment processes, and industrial applications.
  • Experience interpreting technical specifications, drawings, and project requirements.
  • Proficiency with pump selection software, CRM, and standard office applications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; proven ability to work in collaborative, multi-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel as required to job sites and client locations.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience within the municipal or commercial industrial sectors, with a significant portion of this experience directly related to the Water & Wastewater industry or a closely related field
  • Exposure to regulatory compliance requirements impacting municipal and industrial water markets.
  • Prior experience supporting sales or applications for equipment representative firms is highly desirable.
