Applications Engineer (Power Management, DC-DC)
About The Position
onsemi's Power Management Division (PMD) is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer for its PMIC & PoL Business Unit. This role focuses on DC-DC converter applications, contributing to product definition, application validation during new product development (NPD), and customer technical support throughout the product lifecycle. The Applications Engineer will collaborate with an experienced engineering team and leverage onsemi’s global support network to drive customer success. As a trusted technical advisor, the engineer will help solve complex power management challenges, accelerate product development, and contribute to industry-leading products. The position is based in the San Jose Design Center, an onsemi Center of Excellence, working alongside Silicon Valley engineers and leadership. The facility includes a state-of-the-art engineering lab with 50 benches and the latest test equipment.
Requirements
- BSEE or MSEE (or equivalent) with a focus on power electronics and DC-DC conversion
- 3 to 10+ years minimum professional experience with switching power converters, controllers, and drivers
- Proficient with simulation tools, especially SIMPLIS
- Schematic capture and PCB layout experience, Altium preferred (including library management)
- Effective circuit debug skills in an engineering lab
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities
- Provide technical customer support for a portfolio of power management products including converters, controllers, and drivers (this position does not require frequent travel)
- Support onsemi’s customer apps and FAEs with issues escalated to BU
- Provide direct customer support for key customers
- Utilize cross-functional teams such as FAE, Design, Quality, Manufacturing, and Product Engineering as needed
- Create and present product training material to onsemi’s technical support community, including FAE and Sales
- Author and publish application notes and knowledge base articles
- Support NPD Applications Engineering activities
- Strategize with Product Definition and Design Leads on new product requirements
- Represent BU Applications during all phases of NPD
- Create customer-facing collateral including EVB, GUI, User Guide, model, design aid, and datasheet
- Validate new products for application functionality
