About The Position

Brunel has partnered with SB Energy to hire a Project Engineer – DC Power to support the engineering coordination and execution of a major data center power infrastructure project in Borden County, Texas. Backed by SoftBank and Ares, SB Energy develops, builds, owns, and operates large-scale power and data center infrastructure projects across the U.S. In this role, you will serve as a key on-site engineering interface, connecting contractors, the data center campus design team, consultants, and SB Energy’s in-house engineering resources. You will help ensure design decisions, technical deliverables, and field engineering activities remain aligned with construction, commissioning, and overall project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership responsibility for projects exceeding $500 million in capital value.
  • Experience coordinating engineering deliverables and field technical issues on power infrastructure, utility, industrial, or comparable construction projects.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage design schedules, multidisciplinary reviews, RFIs, submittals, and engineering documentation through resolution.
  • Sound technical judgment, including the ability to identify when specialist input is required, engage the appropriate experts, and translate technical guidance into clear project actions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate contractors, consultants, and internal teams across competing priorities.
  • Ability to work primarily on-site in an active construction environment and comply with project safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with transmission lines, substations, and data center power interfaces is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary field contact for engineering and technical concerns, coordinating timely resolution with contractors, consultants, and SB Energy subject matter experts.
  • Coordinate design packages and interfaces across transmission line (T-Line), substation, and related power infrastructure scopes, including alignment with the data center campus design team.
  • Manage contractor design schedules, deliverables, and review milestones to support procurement, construction, commissioning, and project completion.
  • Identify engineering and design delays and drive appropriate corrective actions.
  • Plan and coordinate design reviews with internal engineering resources and the Owner’s Engineering consultant.
  • Consolidate design comments, resolve conflicting feedback, and track actions through closure.
  • Own the timely coordination and issuance of SB Energy responses to design reviews, requests for information (RFIs), and submittals, obtaining input and approvals from appropriate technical authorities.
  • Maintain engineering action, RFI, submittal, and design review logs while communicating priorities, overdue items, decisions, and risks to project leadership and field teams.
  • Partner with QA/QC teams on first articles and benchmarks, clarify design intent and acceptance criteria, and coordinate resolution of technical discrepancies.
  • Engage in-house subject matter experts for specialized analysis and technical decisions, providing clear field information and following issues through documented resolution.
  • Coordinate with the Independent Engineer on technical questions, document requests, reviews, and milestone verification.
  • Coordinate SB Energy’s review and responses for Mechanical Completion, SC, PIS, and other project milestone certificates, assembling supporting records and securing required internal approvals.
  • Manage engineering closeout deliverables, including job books, as-built drawings, and turnover documentation.
  • Track contractor submissions for completeness and coordinate final reviews.
  • Partner with construction, project management, QA/QC, and commissioning teams to resolve engineering constraints.
  • Communicate approved changes and their potential schedule, cost, quality, and safety implications.
