About The Position

This is an entry-level position where the incumbent, under the general supervision of the Product Development/Application Manager and guidance of experienced Engineers, will perform a variety of functions in the development and/or improvement of energy products. Responsibilities include conducting feasibility studies to determine technical difficulty, approximate product cost, compatibility of processes, and overall product functionality. The role involves preparing trial plans, test plans, and associated reports, as well as comparing developed products with competitor offerings in terms of function, cost, and quality. Additionally, the position requires reviewing customer specifications, preparing reports and summaries, and handling other specific tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent related work experience in the wire and cable industry.
  • Willingness to learn and apply knowledge in energy cable product uses and requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Successful background check.
  • Proof of legal status to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with energy product development projects, independently handle less complex portions of projects, or complete assigned tasks.
  • Perform various duties, including engineering studies and investigations.
  • Work closely with Quality Control, Manufacturing Engineers, Production Supervision, vendors, and Maintenance in developing trial plans and testing programs for product development.
  • Continuously seek areas for cost reduction related to cable design, including alternative materials, economies of design, reduction of manufacturing complexity to decrease scrap, and design to maximize cable specifications.
  • Perform feasibility studies involving cost analyses and consideration of alternatives to determine the economic advantage of proposed product improvements.
  • Assist in the selection of equipment, machines, or tooling, and assist in the selection of materials.
  • Determine approximate costs to facilitate decisions concerning products to be developed.
  • Assist in the preparation of capital expenditure appropriation requests, working closely with manufacturing engineering and management.
  • Work closely with Product Design Engineering in planning production methods for new and revised products.
  • Make recommendations regarding product design from the standpoint of product function and adherence to standards.
  • As necessary, assist supervisors and operators during production and with conducting trial runs.
  • Exercise partial supervision over machine operations during specific projects.
  • Prepare operating and process specifications, and other documentation for product development trials and product testing.
  • Maintain various records related to trials and testing.
  • Publish schedules, project summaries, budgets, test reports, third-party testing requirements, and product development reports.
  • Provide updates to assigned products at weekly meetings and as required by management.
  • Work with vendors in investigating improved methods and equipment for new and existing products.
  • Review customer specifications and provide reports to check plant capability and recommend developments to fulfill customer requirements.
  • Use initiative, ingenuity, and sound engineering techniques and approaches while performing technical investigations, utilizing engineering and technical literature.
  • Seek and accept functional guidance and assistance from others.
  • Evaluate, promote, recommend, and work toward a safe and accident-free environment.
  • Ensure operating procedures for all new and existing equipment have been documented.
  • Exercise responsibility for professional development through continuing study, attending technical society meetings, and similar means.
  • Keep informed on developments in methods, machines, equipment, tooling, and materials through technical literature, trade shows, and vendor visits.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor.
