About The Position

This position performs advanced professional and technical work in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) within the Office of the State Courts Administrator, supporting enterprise application database environments. The role emphasizes database backup, recovery, and Continuity of Operations (COOP) to ensure the availability, integrity, and resilience of critical systems. The incumbent is responsible for administering, monitoring, and maintaining database systems, with a primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server and associated cloud services, including Azure SQL.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, information technology, management information systems, computer science, engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of related work experience, including extensive knowledge and experience with relational databases.
  • Strong understanding of database administration, including relational design, performance optimization, and data protection (backup and recovery).
  • Proficiency in SQL and database performance tuning, with the ability to automate tasks using scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell).
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues, maintain high-performing and reliable database systems, and effectively manage priorities in both independent and team environments.
  • Submit a complete and accurate application profile, which includes essential information such as dates of service, reasons for leaving, and other qualifications.
  • Ensure that all employment history and detailed information about work experience are included in the application. This should encompass military service, self-employment, job-related volunteer work, internships, and any other relevant experiences, along with explanations for any employment gaps.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, patch, and maintain SQL Server database environments
  • Monitor database system availability, performance, storage capacity, jobs, and logs; perform troubleshooting
  • Develop, implement, and maintain database backup and recovery procedures, including regular validation and restoration testing
  • Support and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, and replication
  • Administer and optimize Azure SQL environments, including configuration, monitoring, performance tuning, security, and cost management
  • Develop, review, and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies
  • Analyze execution plans and perform database performance tuning using tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
  • Manage database security, including user roles, permissions, access controls, and auditing practices
  • Implement basic encryption concepts and support compliance with applicable security standards
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., PowerShell) for job scheduling, monitoring, and log management
