About The Position

Pan-American Life Insurance (PALIG) is seeking an Application Systems Analyst - Policy Administration who will perform work with a high degree of latitude and provides technical support to the business area and is a liaison to the other IT teams and third-party vendors. This role ideally targets someone who is highly analytical and detail-oriented with a strong foundation in mathematics, deep experience in life insurance and systems, including configuring Life Administration Systems. The analyst will perform technical system design, manage and perform testing, and facilitate the prioritization of development efforts. They will drive the identification of tasks and estimation, and must be able to communicate concepts and details at both a technical and business level, identify and communicate risk in business terms, and provide conceptual modeling from a business view. A good understanding of the SDLC and basic knowledge of software development is required. The role involves assisting with troubleshooting and resolving application issues, proactively working on solutions for preventing future issues, and providing mentorship and training to peers and colleagues. After-hours support is required as needed. The ideal candidate will proactively and independently learn and utilize new technology, concepts, and procedures as appropriate for project requirements and maintain current knowledge of industry technology trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science and 1 year experience in mathematics, actuarial science, business analytics, computer science or related field; 4 years of additional experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in life insurance or financial services industry with industry knowledge specific to concepts and terminology is strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and comply with life insurance regulations and compliance standards.
  • SQL language and querying data.
  • Reporting Tools (Crystal, COGNOS, CINCOM Eloquence, SQL Server Reporting Services).
  • Understanding of programming (.Net).
  • Experience with SDLC, project management and agile methodologies.
  • Experience with automated testing.
  • Work Management tools Jira, Confluence, Service Now.
  • Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical individuals, including translation between the two.
  • Takes initiative / proactive mindset.
  • Travel (limited).
  • Perform under stressful conditions and competing deadlines.
  • Provide after hours support (limited).

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward or an interest in obtaining Associate Life Management Institute (ALMI) or Fellow Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform systems analysis in order to provide solutions and identify potential improvements.
  • Interpret data regarding current environment and document workflows and system access.
  • Assist business in identification of business requirements and design of processes to support the business need and complement the technical solution.
  • Proactively and independently learn and utilize new technology, concepts, and procedures as appropriate to project requirements.
  • Apply analytical skills and related application knowledge to define the information requirements necessary to design, build and install upgrades and/or new implementations.
  • Consider and adhere to security protocols established by InfoSec.
  • Identify and document recommendations for optimal workflow based on system capabilities.
  • Define, recommend, and support solutions for business needs.
  • Work with business area to support the creation of business cases including clarification of scope, identification of possible solutions, recommendation, project feasibility, cost estimations and schedule.
  • Assist in the definition of user acceptance testing.
  • Contribute to the development of training and support plans for end user application systems.
  • Support current project methodology (traditional waterfall or agile) while adhering to the System Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Develop or assist in the development of work plans, task sequencing.
  • Create test plans in collaboration with the business area to support application and integration test scenarios.
  • Work with business analysts and stakeholders to resolve scope issues and other conflicts.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate/optimal project approach according to project need.
  • Utilize change management process.
  • Participate in and support IT department growth, change and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Information Technology in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Complete assigned tasks per defined project scope, timelines, and budgets.
  • Proactively work with internal IT teams on technical troubleshooting, integration, reporting and training.
  • Demonstrate creativity and passion to continuously learn.

  • Communicate effectively with technical team at all levels and with users at a non-technical and technical level.
  • Improve productivity by highlighting deficiencies and recommending change in tools, training, or processes.

  • Research and recommend innovative and automated approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale for solutions.
  • Perform repetitive tasks to support business process.
  • Monitor and assist in managing daily requests.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve applications pertaining to both hardware and software by providing technical support for analysis and isolation of the root cause.
  • Configure and maintain Life Administration systems to support end-to-end life insurance policy administration, including but not limited to new business, underwriting, billing and claims workflows.
  • Provide mentorship and training to peers and colleagues.
  • Provide after-hours support as needed.
  • Proactively and independently learn and utilize new technology, concepts and procedures as appropriate for project requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry technology trends.
