About The Position

CGI Federal is seeking an Application Performance Monitoring (APM) Engineer to support a large federal agency. This role will be responsible for the health and availability of critical citizen-facing applications, using a suite of monitoring tools to analyze complex performance data to identify bottlenecks, communicate impact to stakeholders, and automate reporting to ensure 24/7 operational stability. This position is located in Baltimore, MD

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US public trust clearance.
  • Bachelors Degree +7 years IT experience
  • Primary Toolset: 3+ years of hands-on experience with Dynatrace (SaaS or Managed).
  • Secondary Toolset: Proficiency in Splunk (log aggregation/querying) and Broadcom DX APM (formerly CA APM/Wily).
  • Scripting: Demonstrated ability to automate tasks using APIs or scripting languages.
  • Environment: Strong understanding of hybrid-cloud architectures and how mainframe components impact modern app performance.
  • Candidate must be local to Baltimore, MD and willing to be onsite.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to coordinate and handle production issues and work on high priority issues.
  • Strong documentation skills for maintaining SOPs and monitoring standards.

Responsibilities

  • Deep-Dive Analysis: Utilize Dynatrace to review metrics, traces, and logs to diagnose application health issues and pinpoint root causes of service degradation.
  • System Configuration: Expertly configure Dynatrace environments, including alerting thresholds, dashboards, and synthetic monitoring.
  • Cross-Platform Monitoring: Monitor and correlate data across Splunk and Broadcom DX APM (specifically for mainframe-integrated applications).
  • Automation: Write scripts (Python, PowerShell, or Bash) to automate routine monitoring tasks, health checks, and performance reporting.
  • Communication: Translate technical telemetry into clear, actionable updates for NOC leadership and development teams during high-priority incidents.
