We are seeking a driven Application Performance Intern who is excited to gain hands-on experience in monitoring and improving the performance of a production-scale software as a service application. In this role, you will collaborate directly with the engineering team to proactively design, implement, and refine tooling that identifies performance bottlenecks and improves the speed and scalability of our platform. Requirements

  • Actively pursuing a degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field
  • Proficiency with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript)
  • Familiarity with SQL fundamentals and other relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar) or other database query languages
  • Experience with logging/metrics/tracing
  • Basic understanding of SaaS architecture, APIs, front-end vs. back-end, and database interaction
  • Experience identifying inefficiencies in code or systems
  • High level of attention to detail, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience working in teams, using Jira, or documenting processes and findings
  • Basic understanding of cloud environments (AWS experience is a plus)

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to monitoring and observability tools such as (e.g., New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry)

Responsibilities

  • Research and assess performance monitoring and observability tools that align with the needs of a lean engineering team
  • Implement instrumentation within the application to collect and analyze key performance metrics (e.g., query execution time, page load time)
  • Identify slow-performing areas in the system and propose actionable improvements
  • Collaborate cross functionally with users and other team members to prioritize and implement performance optimizations
  • Gather and interpret user feedback to inform data-driven performance recommendations to the team
  • Document findings, processes, best practices to ensure transparency and future scalability
