About The Position

Define project system requirements and develop system specifications for Variable Speed Drive application to Industrial Systems projects. This role involves developing detailed system specifications through collaboration with mechanical original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and end-user clients, per the contract and global industry standards. Responsibilities include troubleshooting drive application issues, creating electrical circuit drawings, providing technical guidance, developing processes for VFD configuration and tuning, and ensuring "as shipped" systems meet client requirements. The role also includes performing development tasks for drive features, evaluating supplier proposals, managing equipment costs, preparing purchase specifications, conducting design reviews, and providing technical and costing information for proposals. Additionally, the Application Engineer will provide technical consultation to assist clients and may perform project management services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or related field or equivalent via education and/or work experience
  • 2 years' related work experience in specifying, designing, commissioning, and/or maintaining low and/or medium voltage, variable frequency drives
  • Demonstrated successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts
  • Demonstrated successful and positive personal leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement in areas of responsibility
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Visio
  • Able to climb and work on cranes at heights up to approximately 175 feet, occasionally
  • Availability to travel, domestically and internationally, approximately 15%, occasionally with limited notice

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years' related work experience in specifying, designing, commissioning, and/or maintaining low and/or medium voltage, variable frequency drives
  • Demonstrated knowledge of VFD application to complex coordinated control systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DC to DC or DC to AC VFD retrofit projects
  • Demonstrated project engineering and/or project management knowledge, skills, and experience
  • Demonstrated successful working relationships mechanical OEM's and end-user clients
  • Knowledge of electrical CAD software such as AutoCAD, EPLAN etc.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed system specifications through collaboration with mechanical original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and end-user clients, per the contract and global industry standards, to ensure high quality designs and on-time delivery for the following: Low and/or medium voltage variable frequency drives for new and/or retrofit projects, Incoming panels, harmonics filter panels and output reactor panels
  • Troubleshoot low and medium voltage, AC and DC variable frequency drive application issues, at client site as assigned
  • Create electrical circuit drawings to ensure a design that meets project requirements and quality standards
  • Provide timely technical guidance to internal and external clients and suppliers as required to ensure total project requirements are met
  • Develop and maintain processes and procedures to support the configuration and tuning of VFDs
  • Ensure “as shipped” systems meet all client requirements as defined in the project contract, including system specifications and performance guarantees, while achieving business goals and objectives
  • Perform development related tasks for drive features or applications for new and existing VFD’s, as assigned
  • Evaluate supplier proposals to determine the best technical and most cost-effective solution for the application
  • Manage equipment costs, recommending cost reductions when feasible
  • Prepare purchase specification and ERP requisition in a timely manner to support the project schedule
  • Conduct detailed design reviews, internally and externally, with suppliers and clients
  • Provide technical and costing information for the preparation of technical proposals, using client specifications and knowledge of Company solutions
  • Provide technical consultation to assist clients in specifying solutions to technology challenges that results in projects for the Company
  • Provide project management services as assigned
