About The Position

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (“SEL”) seeks professional, innovative and detailed individuals for our Application Engineer – Protection position located at our field office in Louisville, Kentucky. If you are looking for an opportunity to work with industry experts while participating in developing cutting edge products, then this may be the position for you! These full-time positions will be based out of SEL’s field office in Louisville, Kentucky. Because the company has numerous customers nationwide, some travel is required, as the incumbent will occasionally and on a short-term basis be deployed to various customer sites. Candidates must therefore be willing to travel to various unanticipated locations throughout the United States on an ongoing basis. However, these positions require regular on-site work at the Louisville field office and do not permit remote work or work-from-home arrangements, notwithstanding any required business travel to customer sites. SEL invents, designs, and builds digital products and systems that protect power grids around the world. This technology prevents blackouts and enables customers to improve power system reliability and safety at a reduced cost. Requirements

  • Knowledge of power system protection.
  • Knowledge of all SEL related products.
  • Principles of electrical and computer engineering.
  • Willingness to travel to various unanticipated locations throughout the United States on an ongoing basis.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and on a short-term basis to various customer sites.
  • Ability to work regularly on-site at the Louisville field office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and improve knowledge of power system protection and all SEL related products.
  • Apply the principles of electrical and computer engineering to help customers apply SEL products through visits, demonstrations, training courses, and telephone contacts.
  • Contribute to product specifications, applications, and testing software and literature.
  • Broadcast new information on product applications and testing to SEL national field offices.
  • Participate in SEL marketing and sales activities and industry technical meetings and conferences.
  • Teach in training schools for customers and SEL personnel.
  • Follow and improve marketing, sales, and engineering quality procedures.
