About The Position

Apparel Design Interns participate in AEO Inc.’s 10-week, full-time, paid summer internship program, based out of the New York Design Office. Interns work alongside designers and cross-functional partners within the American Eagle or Aerie brands and are placed on a Design team in a specific brand or product category. The program combines on-the-job training guided by an individual mentor with classroom learning, executive roundtables, networking and career exploration events, and pre-planned events around New York City. Interns create and present a summerlong capsule collection project to Senior Design Leadership. Successful completion may lead to consideration for future Assistant Design roles. Interns assist designers with work from concept through design and final development for a classification. They learn about relevant raw materials and trims, support daily follow-up with buyers and vendors, sketch designs in Illustrator, prepare PLM packages, create presentation boards, observe presentation and fit processes, conduct preliminary design research, review lab dips with a supervisor and send comments to vendors, and maintain line sheets. Other duties may be assigned. The internship requires being in the New York City area for its duration and working in a hybrid environment, with in-office work for some or all of a week depending on business needs.
