This is a six-month fellowship program for Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) to develop expertise in the recognition, evaluation, and management of acute neurologic insults. These insults include, but are not limited to, traumatic brain injury, stroke, refractory status epilepticus, autoimmune and demyelinating disorders, CNS infections, metabolic and neuromuscular disorders, and neurologic complications of critical illness. The training involves consult service in the ICU, as well as rotations in neurosurgery, pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, and adult neuroscience/stroke. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works within a multidisciplinary clinical team to gain knowledge in Neuro Critical Care, learn evidence-based practice through research and academic activities, and support nursing and leadership to advance the nursing profession. The role is unique to the APN specialty area and aligns with individual credentialing and privileging through the Medical Staff Office.
