About The Position

The Active Playful Learning Project (APL) seeks applicants for APL Research Administration Support to help coordinate the implementation and data collection efforts of the research study. This role supports the research administration team, coordinates multisite ECOS observations, supervises data entry, and supports the Data Center. The incumbent will become part of a vibrant team of research staff conducting research on active playful learning in Loudoun County Public Schools. The APL Research Assistant will work with the University of Virginia, a sub-recipient of a LEGO Foundation grant, to support the goals of the project measuring the impact of Active Playful Learning in classrooms across the U.S. This role will include both on-site work in Loudoun Co, VA elementary schools, as well as remote work.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years relevant experience required.
  • Ability to travel some distance to attend meetings and programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in educational settings managing/coordinating data collection with complex classroom observation tools (e.g., COPTOP or ECOS systems).
  • Experience with data tracking systems on multi-site research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and plan classroom observations under the supervision of the project manager.
  • Verify that the data collected during observations meets the quality and metrics of the data collection system used by the research team, collaborate with research data collectors to revise and update data as needed.
  • Coordinate distribution and collection of paper-based or electronic consents, following defined scripts and procedures.
  • Accurately document data collected in the field, and enter it into digital systems (e.g., Smartsheets, redcap, FileMaker, ECOS trackers) for further analysis.
  • Coordinate with teachers to schedule site visits, ensuring minimal disruption to instructional time and maximum compliance with research schedules.
  • Follow protocols and guidelines established in accordance with research team; maintain confidentiality and data security in all research activities.
  • Draft and provide weekly status updates to the research team, flagging any issues related to data quality, scheduling conflicts, or participant engagement.
  • Attend regular meetings and training sessions provided by the national or local team through virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
  • Collaborate with the multisite team to ensure the ECOS observations across sites is meeting timelines, quality and rating criteria set by the national team.
  • Collaborate and support the Data Center team on data collection preparation efforts, data management and coordination.

  • This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year.
