About The Position

Help students turn ideas into impact while inspiring stronger readers, writers, and thinkers! Cross Country Education is seeking English Language Arts (ELA) Teachers who can bring literature, writing, and discussion to life while creating an environment where students feel encouraged to think critically, express themselves, and engage with new ideas throughout the school year in the Bronx, NY. Position Overview Deliver engaging, rigorous ELA instruction to 8th grade students, with an emphasis on literary analysis, critical thinking, reading comprehension, and advanced writing skills. Develop lessons, activities, and assessments that challenge students to analyze complex texts, articulate ideas effectively, and support their perspectives with evidence. Foster a structured and inclusive classroom where students are encouraged to engage in meaningful discussions, think independently, and take ownership of their learning. Collaborate proactively with fellow educators and school staff to support academic achievement and contribute to a positive school community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Valid New York State Teaching Certification (Preferred)
  • Non-certified candidates must have at least 12 college credits in the relevant subject area and provide transcripts demonstrating subject-matter expertise.
  • 1–2 years of experience teaching ELA or a related subject to middle or high school students

Nice To Haves

  • experience with advanced, honors, or AP-level coursework
  • experience with urban school settings preferred
