About The Position

The AOD Support Staff III Certified - MC, provides services to beneficiaries participating in treatment while monitoring the program premises for safety and security. As a Certified AOD Counselor, this role provides education on recovery programs, conducts individual and group counseling sessions, and manages crises. The position also trains and oversees Registered Monitors (Monitor I and Monitor II positions) and must maintain an AOD Credential.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule especially during the evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must maintain AOD Credential.
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients.
  • Alcohol and Other Drug Counseling (AOD) Certification (CCAPP, CADTP or CADEE) (315 hours coursework + 2040-3000 hours supervised on the job training).
  • Completed modules 1 and 2 of ASAM within 2 weeks of hire.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience in the provision of AOD treatment services.
  • If a recovering substance user, must have at least two years of sobriety.

Nice To Haves

  • AA or higher degree in related field.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Bi-lingual, Spanish and English preferred.
  • Understanding of harm reduction (non-abstinence) approach with participant substance use.
  • Willing to work with substance abuse clients, mental health, LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS.

Responsibilities

  • Performs primary alcohol and drug counseling functions for clients including screening, assessment, and intake.
  • Collects specimen from clients for drug and alcohol screening in accord with organization Policy and Procedures.
  • Collaborates with case manager and therapist to assist treatment and other plans.
  • Assists in required intervention and participates in group and educational sessions.
  • Completes discharge and transition plans and required Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Monitors client self-administration of prescribed medication, keeps required treatment records and shift reports.
  • Trains and mentors AOD Registered colleagues (AOD Support Staff I & II).
  • Fills in for assigned AOD Counselor as needed.
  • Provides one on one mentoring, support, assistance, and advocacy to clients.
  • Transports program participants in the company vehicle to offsite appointments, as needed.
  • Monitors the front door to the facility, permitting only authorized persons entry.
  • Records participant entry and exit as required by program rules.
  • Searches all participants' belongings being brought into the Program each time a participant enters, including their pockets, while monitoring for any signs of substance use or bringing contraband into the program.
  • Monitors premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of the program by walking the floor and monitoring surroundings when outside accompanying beneficiaries and making reports as needed.
  • Observes Program premises to ensure safe operations; reports and corrects any spills, unsafe working conditions, or defective equipment.
  • Knows the location of fire exits and is prepared to assist participants in case of any emergency.
  • Monitors clients and conducts room checks; maintains records of client compliance of program rules, reports to clinical/case management staff, and assists clinical/case management staff as required.
  • Calls Police or Fire Department in cases of emergency, such as fire, medical or psychiatric issues, or presence of unauthorized clients/persons.
  • Reports all suspicious events to direct supervisor.
  • Completes written reports and incidents logs of daily activities and irregularities, such as unusual occurrences, equipment or property damage, theft, and presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Acts as a role model for participants at all times.
  • Answers telephones and takes messages for clients and staff, monitors doors and greets visitors.
  • Maintains office housekeeping; verifies all common areas, laundry areas and restrooms are clean and disinfected & fully operational.
  • Monitors and records client self-administration of medication in accordance with organization Policies and Procedures.
  • As required by the Program, assists Program staff during provision of services to clients/participants, including meal preparation/serving, set-up for classes, meetings, recreation, and other Program events.
  • Inputs required data to computer systems and logs (EHR and other databases as required).
  • Performs other duties that may arise to support the Program mission and goals.
  • Screens bags and persons entering shelter.
  • Patrols premises as scheduled.
  • Reports violations of rules.
  • While patrolling continuously observes for safe operations/conditions, reports safety concerns.
  • Acts as a Mandated Reporter and reports any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities.
