About The Position

Frontage is a global Contract Research Company (CRO) with its head office in Exton, Pennsylvania, USA, and 25 sites across the USA, Canada, China, and Italy. The Canadian operations include two sites: one in Vancouver and another in Toronto. Frontage Vancouver, formerly BRI, has over 25 years of experience offering services in regulated and non-regulated bioanalytical analyses (LC/MS/MS and MSD for small and large molecules), In-vitro/In-vivo Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics, and pharmacology. The Vancouver operation is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, particularly to support biotech and pharmaceutical companies in the Pacific Northwest. Our facility is accredited by AAALAC and adheres to GLP standards. This Animal Research Technician III position requires teamwork and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma in animal health technology or a B.Sc in animal science plus at least 5 years experience working hands on in an animal facility, and/or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • CALAS certification (RLAT) required.
  • Ability to perform skilled technical duties but not limited to animal handling, restraint, manipulations (SQ, PO, IV, IP) and minor surgeries in rodents.
  • Exceptional CCAC and AAALAC compliance knowledge.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organization and leadership abilities.
  • Competent and self-motivated individual able to work independently.
  • Excellent logical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with xenograft studies is an asset.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical contract research and GLP compliance knowledge is an asset.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical contract research and GLP compliance knowledge will be an asset but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled technical duties, animal handling, restraint and manipulations, (SQ. PO. IV. IP. Tumor volume measurements) and minor surgeries.
  • Perform blood collection (tail nicks, saphenous bleeds, jugular vein collections, cardiac punctures).
  • Perform tissue collection procedures and euthanasia.
  • Perform xenograft studies including tumor cell inoculations and tumor measurements.
  • Performs general husbandry and assumes responsibility for animal care and monitoring.
  • Perform drug dosage calculations and serial dilutions.
  • Enter data and create Excel spreadsheets specific to each study.
  • Ensure supplies, including animal food, bedding, and other essential supplies are ordered as required.
  • Assumes responsibility for all study monitoring and the completion of score sheets, as required.
  • Ensure that all study related documentation is completed and archived as required.
  • Follows safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.
