About The Position

Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH) in Sydney, Nova Scotia, is seeking two full-time Anesthesiologists to join a group of eight. CBRH is a 250-bed tertiary care regional hospital serving as a surgical referral center for Eastern Nova Scotia. The group provides anesthetic services for approximately 10,000 operating room cases annually and supports around 800 deliveries per year. The hospital currently operates 5 operating rooms daily, with potential expansion to 7, and an ongoing expansion will add eight new surgical suites and a cardiac catheterization lab. There are opportunities for research and medical teaching positions with Dalhousie University.

Requirements

Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
Eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), or proof of alternative coverage.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).

Responsibilities

Provide anesthesia services at Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Glace Bay Hospital for General Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dental Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Vascular Surgery.
Manage pediatric patients.
Participate fully in on-call coverage, including overnight and weekends, and acute pain services.
Participate in the preoperative assessment clinic.
Participate in medical student and resident education.
Be responsible to the Zone Department Head of Anesthesia for professional responsibilities and quality of practice.
Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities.
Offer services in the Pain Clinic if desired.
