Performs a variety of technical assignments for the Department of Anesthesiology exercising a high degree of skill, judgment and knowledge of the terminology, common procedures and practices of the assigned area. Performs set-up of medications and supplies in both the work room and mobile carts, and anesthesia equipment set-up and trouble shooting. Position has occasional patient contact, including Point of Care (POC) testing as requested by anesthesia providers. Schedule 6 AM-4:30 PM; OCC WKNDS/HOL SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED: May provide instruction to Anesthesia Services Assistants. MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED: Datex Aespire and Aestiva anesthesia machines, Baxter pumps, pulse oximeters, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, transport monitors, fiberoptic scopes, TEE (trans esophageal echocardiography) probes, ranger fluid warmers, cell-savers, blood gas analyzers, ACT (actual clotting time) machines, TEG (thromboelastogram) machines, glucometer and other miscellaneous equipment. TYPICAL DUTIES: Prepares and places anesthesia equipment and supplies in operating room prior to arrival of patient based on case variables (patient age, case type and length). Ensures cleanliness of anesthesia equipment and availability of specialized anesthesia supplies required for cases in designated operating rooms. Performs moderate to advanced equipment set-up, calibration, operation and trouble shooting. Participates in Cell Saver and Liver Transplant Programs, including on-call procedure. Performs set-up and support of ectopic procedures for anesthesia care ensuring proper equipment is in place for out-of OR procedures. Functions as a resource and support person for Anesthesiology providers. Performs non-waived (i.e., TEG, ABG, Glucose) Point-of-Care laboratory testing as requested by anesthesia providers. For this function, the anesthesia technologist will report directly to the anesthesiologist Clinical Coordinator. Performs other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor or Anesthesia Operations Manager.
