Anesthesia Tech-Operating Room
About The Position
The Anesthesia Technician works in the Operating Room within Lexington Baptist Health’s Surgical Services Department. The department includes pre-operative care, 20 operating rooms, a postoperative care unit, endoscopy services with dedicated pre- and post-operative areas, and sterile processing. The position assesses patient-specific preoperative needs and communicates relevant patient and procedure information to the surgical services team. It also supports anesthesia equipment and supply needs, coordination with Sterile Processing, staff instruction and scheduling coverage, and positive customer relations in a healing environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; applicants who are not already certified must obtain it within 30 days of their hire date.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient-specific preoperative needs, including resistant organisms, latex allergies, and age-specific considerations, and communicate relevant patient and procedure information to surgical services team members.
- Meet with anesthesiologists to identify departmental needs.
- Meet with vendors to identify equipment and supply needs.
- Assist with the capital budget process.
- Communicate necessary changes and supply or instrumentation needs to the Sterile Processing Department (SPD).
- Communicate operating room schedule conflicts to the Chief Anesthesiologist or designee.
- Coordinate special procedures with SPD.
- Instruct staff on the proper use and handling of anesthesia equipment.
- Assist with staff scheduling and coordinate coverage.
- Support positive customer relations through caring behaviors and handle difficult or emotional situations sensitively.
