About The Position

The Anesthesia Technician works in Baptist Health Lexington’s Surgical Services Department, which includes preoperative care, 20 operating rooms, a postoperative care unit, an endoscopy department, and sterile processing. The role assesses patient-specific preoperative needs, communicates relevant patient and procedure information to the surgical services team, and supports anesthesia operations through equipment and supply coordination, staff instruction, and coverage scheduling. The position also contributes to customer relations and a positive healing environment.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; applicants who are not already certified must obtain it within 30 days of their hire date.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Assess patient-specific preoperative needs, including resistant organisms, latex allergies, and age-specific considerations, and communicate relevant patient and procedure information to surgical services team members.
Meet with anesthesiologists to identify departmental needs.
Meet with vendors to identify equipment and supplies needed for the department.
Assist with the capital budget process.
Communicate with the Sterile Processing Department regarding necessary changes and supply or instrumentation needs.
Communicate operating room schedule conflicts to the Chief Anesthesiologist or designee.
Coordinate special procedures with the Sterile Processing Department.
Instruct staff on the proper use and handling of anesthesia equipment.
Assist with staff scheduling and coordinate coverage.
Demonstrate leadership, communication, and teamwork.
Support positive customer relations through caring behaviors and use sensitivity when managing difficult or emotional situations.
