The Lead Anesthesia Technician assists licensed anesthesia providers in acquiring, preparing, and applying equipment and supplies for anesthesia administration. This role contributes to safe, efficient, and cost-effective anesthesia care, providing support for routine and complex surgical cases. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems before, during, and after anesthesia. Administrative duties involve coordinating the daily routine of technical anesthesia staff, employee scheduling, evaluations, and program development. The Lead must prioritize and delegate responsibilities, understand associated costs, and maintain professional confidentiality and awareness of role limitations. They actively participate in continuing education for anesthesia technicians and communicate with vendors regarding supplies. The role requires practical knowledge of anesthesia, understanding of advanced life support, and thorough knowledge of anesthesia delivery systems, monitors, and ancillary devices. Maintaining equipment and supply inventory, and adhering to regulatory guidelines are also key. An understanding of anatomy and physiology as it applies to anesthesia care is necessary. The position involves assisting with patient assessment, evaluations, transport, positioning, insertion of invasive lines, and airway management.
