About The Position
Performs computer functions, processes patient specimens, maintains department inventory, operates and maintains equipment, and performs record-keeping tasks and QI functions. Adheres to patient identification, Lab safety, and other Mercy Lab and department policies and procedures. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. This position plays an important role in supporting quality patient care and delivering exceptional service consistent with Mercy's mission and values.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- No prior experience required.
- None required (licensure/certification).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and quality service.
Nice To Haves
- Previous laboratory experience.
- Computer/data entry experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with laboratory workflows and specimen handling procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform computer functions and maintain accurate laboratory records.
- Process, receive, and manage patient specimens according to established procedures.
- Ensure proper patient identification and specimen integrity.
- Maintain department inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment within established guidelines.
- Complete record-keeping and documentation tasks accurately and timely.
- Support quality improvement (QI) initiatives and departmental goals.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety standards, infection prevention practices, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate professionalism and provide service consistent with Mercy's Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards.
- Collaborate effectively with laboratory staff and other healthcare team members.
