About The Position

The Pathology Assistant Supervisor, Anatomic Pathology (Full Time, Days) at St. Luke's plays a crucial role in the Anatomic Pathology department. This exempt pay position involves approximately 50% of scheduled work time dedicated to bench grossing activities. The supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the Anatomic Pathology staff and laboratory functions, ensuring operations meet the minimum standards set by laboratory accrediting agencies. In addition to supervisory duties, the role includes performing the functions of a Pathologists' Assistant and serving as a network technical specialist in their area of expertise.

Requirements

Certification by the Board of Registry, American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Pathologists’ Assistant (PA).
Minimum of five years gross dissection laboratory experience required.

Nice To Haves

Two years supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Supervises the assigned staff, including selection, training, orientation, monitoring, competence assessment, and continuing education.
Evaluates staff performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
Prepares daily work schedules to coordinate workflow and adjusts staffing for unscheduled concerns.
Performs routine bench assignments as needed due to workload and staffing.
Delegates responsibilities to ensure smooth section operation in the supervisor's absence.
Uses competency assessment elements (e.g., direct observation) to ensure laboratory requirements are met.
Supervises the maintenance of instrumentation and ensures resources for troubleshooting are available.
Serves as the network laboratory expert/resource, ensuring quality standard work practices, procedures, and policies throughout network laboratories.
Assists in developing, implementing, revising, interpreting, and enforcing policies and procedures and service standards.
Reviews results with Pathologist.
Maintains current technical/scientific knowledge in the assigned area of expertise.
Compiles data, prepares reports, and may work on special assigned projects.
Maintains effective communication within the department through meetings and serves on various laboratory/hospital committees.
Designs and implements a Quality Management process/program with the Laboratory Quality Manager to document performance and resolve system problems and service complaints.
Provides input to the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory Manager for the annual budget and explains variances.
Maintains cost-effective inventory.
