We are looking for a Tax Analyst who enjoys solving complex problems and turning data into insights to support tax compliance and business operations. This position is based in downtown Montreal with a hybrid work arrangement.

Requirements

  • University degree in administration, accounting major
  • 1-3 years of experience in accounting and / or tax compliance
  • Strong analytical skills, autonomy, and ability to manage priorities
  • Interest in the taxation of large companies
  • Proficiency in common IT tools, such as Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Bilingual: French and English, as daily communication with North American operations is essential to the position

  • Tax training is an asset
  • An accounting designation or in the process of obtaining one, an asset
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Longview, an asset

Responsibilities

  • Prepare Canadian and American tax returns
  • Produce Canadian and American sales tax returns (including follow-up on recording of payments)
  • Analyze recorded sales taxes
  • Analyze accounting transactions to self-assess for Canadian and American operations
  • Follow-up with controllers and accountants for the corrections to be made for coding errors
  • Reconciling the sales tax account of all sales tax accounts and tracking exceptions, corrections, etc.
  • Review of contributions and requests for documents
  • Analyze the notices of assessment and account statements
  • Communicate with tax authorities
  • Request payment of contributions and registration with the GL
  • Respond to requests for information from tax authorities (including search for supporting documents and follow-ups with the tax authority in question)
  • Manage exemption certificates at the American level using Control Point software
  • Analysis of AP transactions for the Canadian entities to ensure that errors are minimized during future verifications.
  • Prepare the analyses and documents required for government audits
  • Manage Canadian or American government audits with the lower contribution risk
  • Tax-related research to answer the different questions from operations
  • Act as support for the head office tax department
