Analyst, Private Credit
About The Position
Northleaf is a global private markets investment firm focused on mid-market companies and assets. Northleaf’s 300+ person team, located in Toronto, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Menlo Park, Montreal, New York, Seoul and Tokyo, is focused exclusively on sourcing, evaluating and managing private markets investments. Northleaf manages closed and open-end funds across a range of global private markets strategies and a series of separately managed accounts with customized investment strategies tailored to meet the specific needs of leading institutional investors and family offices. As part of its ambitious growth strategy, Northleaf is also developing specific private markets products and investment solutions for insurance and wealth management clients. Northleaf is currently recruiting for an Analyst to join the growing private credit team. This position will be based in Northleaf’s Chicago office. The successful candidate will work with the senior investment team on evaluating, underwriting, and executing private credit investments in North America across multiple industries supporting both private equity sponsored and non-sponsored transactions.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of experience in direct lending, debt capital markets, restructuring, transaction advisory, or investment banking
- Strong academic credentials

- Strong analytical skills including research, financial modeling, risk identification

Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of the underwriting and execution process including initial deal screen, comprehensive business diligence, financial review, legal documentation, credit approval and transaction closing.
- Present opportunities and participate in the deal discussion with Investment Committee
- Conduct meetings with lead private equity sponsors and/or company management to review past performance, strategy, industry landscape, and other relevant topics
- Perform financial and business due diligence on the company, industry, business strategy, competitive positioning, and financial strength.
- Oversee the development of financial models to analyze investment opportunities including 3-statement forecasting, valuation, DCF analysis, precedent transactions and comparable company analysis
- Develop balanced, fact-based investment recommendations based on the results of the team's diligence and analysis
- Assist in legal documentation and all aspects of the closing process
- Responsible for ongoing monitoring of an existing credit portfolio including financial performance review and communication of trends to senior leadership
- Maintain ongoing dialogue with the borrower, management team, and/or sponsor
- Identify and assist in new business opportunities within the portfolio such as add-on acquisitions, refinancing, and recapitalizations
- Oversee the preparation and audit review of quarterly and annual portfolio company valuations
