About The Position

Sun Life is looking for an Analyst to join our Corporate Development team. Corporate Development is responsible for evaluating and driving strategic initiatives across Sun Life’s four pillars. This includes supporting mergers, acquisitions, sales, minority equity investments, as well as the formation of joint ventures, partnerships and other strategic opportunities. Corporate Development also evaluates and helps execute broader enterprise-level strategic initiatives and internal projects, including semi-organic opportunities. The Analyst, Corporate Development, is based in Toronto and will join a high-performing team and play a key role in developing and executing on both short and long-term growth strategies across Sun Life’s global business. Please note this role requires regular presence at our Toronto One York offices, with hybrid flexibility in preapproved circumstances.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, such as investment banking, corporate development, transaction advisory, management consulting, and accounting
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, commerce, or a related field
  • Demonstrated track-record of building and maintaining financial models
  • Strong understanding of capital budgeting concepts, financial statement analysis, and valuation methodologies
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with experience in creating visually compelling presentations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex information to non-finance professionals
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • To work cross-functionally, build relationships and collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders on transaction processes across our global businesses
  • To leverage technology and data to help drive efficiencies and positive outcomes
  • Unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity, and trust

Nice To Haves

  • Completion or demonstrated progress towards relevant professional designations (e.g., CFA, CBV, CPA) considered an asset
  • Proficiency in Bloomberg, Capital IQ and other similar tools
  • Ability to work flexibly across multiple time zones while managing competing priorities and deadlines; travel commensurate with business needs

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in the evaluation of strategic opportunities, including mergers, acquisitions, sales, minority investments, as well as joint ventures, partnerships, and other strategic opportunities
  • Support all stages of the transaction life cycle and manage multi-functional due diligence processes to appropriately identify risks and mitigants
  • Prepare internal approval and informal evaluation materials for senior leaders which summarize strategic merits, financial considerations, and key risks on prospective opportunities
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models for valuation, transaction analysis, and strategic planning
  • Conduct industry research, market analysis, and competitive benchmarking to identify and distill key industry trends and opportunities for internal stakeholders
  • Undertake ad-hoc analyses, as required from time to time, to support business planning and other strategic projects
  • Develop and maintain databases of comparable companies and precedent transactions
  • Other responsibilities as required
