About The Position

Intel Foundry Technology & Manufacturing is seeking an experienced engineer to own real-time automated material handling architectures, high-availability control software, and data-driven factory throughput. The role supports AMHS infrastructure that transports wafers and delivers reticles across high-volume manufacturing facilities at the Gordon Moore Park at Ronler Acres and Aloha campuses. The engineer designs, integrates, and deploys software for wafer transport, reticle management, and automated stocker systems; sustains distributed automation platforms; and improves tool availability and factory throughput. The position also owns complex escalations and root-cause analysis, develops data analytics and monitoring, leads equipment qualification and new product introductions, and works with global engineering teams to maintain standards. The role requires on-site work in a cleanroom, including walking long fab distances and working at heights around automated track superstructures, and may involve an operational on-call rotation supporting 24x7 manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering/ECE, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline and 3 or more years of relevant industry experience; or a master's degree in one of those fields and 2 or more years of relevant industry experience.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience troubleshooting complex robotics, equipment, distributed systems, industrial controls, or factory automation platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years of experience in semiconductor wafer fabrication facilities, preferably 300mm fab operations.
  • Direct engineering experience with automated material handling OEM systems.
  • Proficiency in SQL database query development and scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or VB script for log analytics and automated monitoring.
  • Knowledge of SEMI communication standards (SEMI E84, E87, E157, E40) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) integration.
  • Applied knowledge of factory physics, queueing theory, and Theory of Constraints (TOC) to improve cycle time and wafer velocity.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies such as FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, or 8D.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM engineering tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent, or automated layout modeling.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical expert responsible for AMHS performance, reliability, uptime, and continuous improvement in the manufacturing environment.
  • Monitor systems proactively, execute preventive maintenance, respond rapidly to Major Impacts, and evaluate and implement new technologies.
  • Participate in an operational on-call rotation to support 24x7 manufacturing escalations.
  • Design, integrate, and deploy end-to-end software solutions for 300mm wafer transport, reticle management, and automated stocker systems.
  • Debug, tune, and sustain multi-tier automation platforms, including low-level firmware, operating system configurations, database interfaces, and real-time scheduling algorithms.
  • Partner with IT Platforms, Networks, Middleware, and Module Equipment Engineering to qualify and integrate new automation capabilities without disrupting manufacturing line balance.
  • Lead structured root-cause analysis for system excursions and implement permanent corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop SQL queries, Python automation routines, and PowerBI dashboards to monitor fleet health, analyze telemetry logs, and prevent systemic failures.
  • Identify and drive improvements to corrective and preventive maintenance through innovative ideas and enhancements, using DPO and DPG processes so improvements benefit all sites.
  • Complete equipment qualification to applicable specifications and contribute to global knowledge revisions based on qualification lessons learned.
  • Work in a cleanroom environment, including walking long fab distances and working at heights around automated track superstructures.
  • Collaborate with Intel's worldwide AMHS engineering network to maintain alignment with Copy Exactly! protocols and SEMI standards.
