About The Position

AmeriCorps EXL Part-Time Youth Mentor – Calistoga Junior/Senior High School. This is a part-time, 900-hour AmeriCorps service commitment over 10 months, serving from October 2026 to July 2027. The role involves supporting local middle and high school students through mentoring, academic assistance, enrichment, relationship-building, and expanded learning programming. Members will become a consistent presence on campus, building meaningful relationships with students, staff, and the school community. This opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking meaningful part-time experience while attending college, exploring career moves, or balancing other opportunities. It is particularly well-suited for Calistoga and Napa County residents, college students, recent graduates, and aspiring educators.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old, or 17 with parental approval.
• Have a high school diploma or GED by the service start date.
• Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident alien.
• Successfully complete required background checks, including DOJ, FBI, and the National Sex Offender Public Website.
• Submit a current, clear TB test.
• Be willing to serve consistently and professionally at Calistoga Junior/Senior High School.
• Demonstrate a commitment to safety and follow all AmeriCorps, program, and school-site safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Help create a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel connected to their school community.
• Build positive relationships with middle and high school students.
• Facilitate structured activities, games, recreation, and student engagement opportunities.
• Encourage teamwork, positive communication, leadership, and healthy peer relationships.
• Support students during transitions, lunch, recreation, and expanded learning programming.
• Serve as a consistent and encouraging adult presence on campus.
• Provide individualized and small-group support in reading, writing, math, and other academic areas.
• Assist students with homework, assignments, projects, and study skills.
• Reinforce classroom learning goals and instructional strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers and school staff.
• Help students build confidence, persistence, organization, and positive learning habits.
• Facilitate individual or small-group mentoring.
• Lead activities focused on social-emotional learning, relationship-building, communication, leadership, and personal growth.
• Use provided curriculum to develop and implement engaging mentoring activities.
• Help students strengthen confidence, belonging, self-advocacy, and connection to school.
• Encourage students as they navigate the academic and social transitions of middle and high school.
• Support or help lead enrichment opportunities based on program needs, student interests, and Member strengths, including Arts & Creative Expression, Sports & Athletics, STEAM & Hands-On Learning, Leadership & Social-Emotional Learning, Outdoor Education & Recreation, Academic Enrichment, College & Career Exploration, and Student Clubs & Interest-Based Activities.

• $1,700 monthly living stipend throughout the 10-month contract.
• $3,697.50 Segal Education Award upon successful completion of the 900-hour term of service.
