About The Position

The AmeriCorps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the Ute Indian Museum, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. Their primary focus will be to support and deliver high-impact educational programming to K-12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will play a key role in facilitating Hands-on History programs, field trips, and other student focused educational experiences. As capacity allows, the AmeriCorps member may also assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives. The service term is for an average of 10 hours per week during the service term, for a minimum of 900 hours over the course of their service term. Flexible hours are required, including occasional evenings. Members may be expected to commit to weekend hours regularly. The AmeriCorps member will be directly supervised by the Education Coordinator, with additional oversight and support provided by the Program Manager. Service term begins September 8, 2026 and ends August 20, 2027. Mandatory Orientation on September 8 and 9, 2026 at the History Colorado Museum in Denver.

Requirements

• 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• A U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
• Ability to pass criminal history checks.
• Strong interest in history, education, or a related field.
• Driver’s license required

Responsibilities

• Lead Shavano Valley Petroglyph Tours for the public and educational groups of all ages.
• Assist with educational programs at the museum, including Hands-On History, field trips, classroom visits, and other activities, ensuring content is culturally relevant and meets academic standards.
• Deliver presentations on the Shavano Valley Petroglyphs and related topics such as rock art and archaeology.
• Collaborate with museum staff and community partners to expand the reach and effectiveness of programming.
• Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of educational programming.
• Contribute to History Colorado’s community engagement and storytelling projects as needed.
• Facilitate educational tours for youth and adult audiences, lead overnight museum camps (including overnight supervision), and support cultural programming and research initiatives.
