About The Position

The AmeriCorps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the museum, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. Their primary focus will be to support and deliver high-impact educational programming to K-12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will play a key role in facilitating Hands-on History programs, field trips, and other student focused educational experiences. As capacity allows, the AmeriCorps member may also assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives.

The Member will serve at the El Pueblo History Museum. The AmeriCorps member will serve for an average of 20 hours per week during the service term, for a minimum of 900 hours over the course of their service term. Flexible hours are required, including occasional evenings. Members may be expected to commit to weekend hours regularly. The AmeriCorps member will be directly supervised by the Education Coordinator, with additional oversight and support provided by the Program Manager. Service term begins September 8, 2026 and ends August 20, 2027. Mandatory Orientation on September 8 and 9, 2026 at the History Colorado Museum in Denver.

Requirements

• 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• A U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
• Ability to pass criminal history checks.
• Strong interest in history, education, or a related field.
• Must have at least three (3) months of full-time or equivalent part-time experience working with school-age children ages 5-18 (455 hours)

Responsibilities

• Facilitate field trips, classroom visits, and other educational activities, tailoring content to be culturally relevant and aligned with academic standards.
• Create and teach lesson plans for Hands-On History classes aligned with our Hands-On History pillars.
• Collaborate with museum staff and community partners to enhance program reach and impact.
• Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of educational programming.
• Support and facilitate other History Colorado community engagement and story initiative projects as needed.
• Facilitate weekly Hands-On History (HOH) Friday programs.
• Support the HOH Winter Break Camp.
• Assist with the HOH Spring Break Camp.
• Support the HOH Summer Camp, managing both activity facilitation and daily clean-up.
• Participate in Día de los Muertos Celebration.
• Participate in Holiday Cultural Festival.
