About The Position

The American Sign Language program at Allan Hancock College is seeking applications to develop a qualified pool of part-time faculty for in-person instructional vacancies. The assignment may include classes at the Santa Maria campus, Lompoc Valley Center, and/or high school locations for College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) classes as needed. Positions may be available during the fall, spring, or summer sessions. Allan Hancock College believes that cultivating an environment that embraces and promotes diversity is fundamental to the success of its students, employees, and community. The teaching assignment will include one or more courses offered in American Sign Language 120 (level 1) or American Sign Language 121 (level 2) or other ASL courses depending on need.

Requirements

  • Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment.
  • OR Any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
  • Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomical, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and abilities of staff and students.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the college's Learning Management System (Canvas) is preferred.
  • Master’s degree in American Sign Language
  • Bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  • Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
  • Teach all scheduled classes.
  • Maintain accurate records.
