About The Position

The APP Manager for Ambulatory Cardiology will serve as a clinical and operational leader within the Heart & Vascular Institute at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). This role combines direct ambulatory patient care responsibilities with management oversight of a growing team of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). The APP Manager will collaborate closely with cardiology, advanced practice, nursing, and administrative leadership to advance high-quality, coordinated outpatient cardiovascular care. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of ambulatory cardiovascular care delivery at one of the nation's premier academic medical centers, while maintaining meaningful clinical practice and leading a dedicated team of cardiology APPs.

Requirements

  • Master's in Nursing (MSN) (or) DNP (or) PhD Degree in Nursing required.
  • Completion of a Master’s or post-Master’s nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
  • Satisfactory completion of an approved formal education program designed to prepare professional nurses to practice as nurse practitioners.
  • Current Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner certification by an accredited APRN certifying body required.
  • Current APRN license to practice in Massachusetts and DEA registration required.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider required.
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership experience required.
  • Substantial clinical experience in cardiology or cardiovascular medicine required.
  • Experience caring for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions in an ambulatory setting required.

Nice To Haves

  • Cardiovascular nursing or cardiology-related specialty certification preferred.
  • Experience with outpatient practice operations, patient access, care coordination, and transitions of care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active ambulatory clinical practice providing evidence-based cardiovascular care to patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions
  • Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments; develop, implement, and evaluate diagnostic and treatment plans; and coordinate longitudinal follow-up
  • Support timely access, transitions of care, medication management, patient education, and coordination with specialty and primary care teams
  • Serve as a clinical expert and resource for the APP team and the interdisciplinary ambulatory cardiovascular care team
  • Participate in ambulatory cardiology quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice implementation
  • Directly oversee and manage the performance of a team of ambulatory cardiology APPs
  • Conduct hiring, onboarding, orientation, training, and scheduling for APP team members
  • Provide regular performance coaching, mentoring, and professional development support
  • Complete performance appraisals and address disciplinary matters as needed
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team culture that supports clinical excellence, patient access, and professional growth
  • Partner with Heart & Vascular Institute leadership to develop and implement strategic plans for ambulatory cardiology APP practice and care delivery
  • Contribute to operational structures, standardized clinical workflows, and team-based ambulatory cardiovascular care models
  • Participate in institute and division planning meetings and strategic initiatives
  • Support coordination across ambulatory cardiology practices and transitions between inpatient, procedural, and outpatient settings
  • Identify opportunities to improve patient access, panel management, continuity, quality, and program growth
  • Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and daily clinical operations for the ambulatory cardiology APP team
  • Monitor team productivity, patient access, scheduling, quality metrics, and clinical outcomes
  • Partner with practice leadership to optimize referral pathways, appointment availability, in-basket management, and continuity of care
  • Participate in Heart & Vascular Institute meetings, committees, and hospital initiatives
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, nursing, pharmacy, care coordination, administrative staff, and other interdisciplinary partners
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, billing standards, and professional practice standards
  • Performs all essential functions of an advanced practice provider, providing direct patient care.
  • Directly oversees and is accountable for the performance of a team of APPs and/or other direct reports.
  • Hires, performance manages, and completes performance appraisals for a team of APPs and/or other direct reports.
  • Orients, trains, and schedules staff.
  • Assists with quality assurance programs as needed to help implement quality improvement efforts.
  • Ensures continuing education and teaching for APPs.
  • Acts as liaison between the hospital, physician and nursing staff, and other APPs.
  • Ensures APPs are following proper billing compliance rules and methodology.
