About The Position

The Clinical Social Worker 3 (MSW) provides direct care to patients and families and helps coordinate services delivered by the care team. In this ambulatory oncology role, the social worker works with interdisciplinary teams at Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Stony Point 9000 building, supporting patients receiving radiation oncology, breast cancer, or survivorship care. The social worker helps patients adjust to diagnosis, identifies and addresses social determinants of health that may impede treatment adherence, and engages patients in advance care planning and supportive counseling. The role is part of a team of social workers supporting adult oncology patients across the service line. The Clinical Social Worker completes psychosocial assessments, develops treatment plans aligned with the overall healthcare plan, provides psychosocial interventions, educates patients, family members, staff, and social work students, supports treatment compliance, connects patients with community services, and coordinates discharge planning. Successful team members enjoy collaboration and educating others about social work’s role in interdisciplinary care, understand oncology-specific psychosocial challenges, and build effective relationships with teams and patients to manage their caseload. Work hours are normal business hours, Monday through Friday. Major holidays are off with PTO, and there is no on-call or weekend expectation. Business casual attire is expected. Depending on unit assignment, alternate schedules, weekends or holidays, call, or work at other unit assignments and clinical locations may be required.
