About The Position

Under the direction of the Clinical Manager, this role ensures optimum patient outcomes related to medication use by preventing or resolving drug-related issues and optimizing the drug therapy of patients. The specialist provides drug information to patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. They are integrally involved in the education of pharmacists, residents, and students, serving as a resource and drug expert in one of seven specialty areas. The role also strives to increase knowledge through research and writing activities. Additionally, the Clinical Specialist may be involved in coordinating the acquisition, distribution, and control of drug therapy for patients under the care of the pharmacist.

Requirements

  • Requires at a minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and at least five years of pertinent work experience or a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and post-graduate training, with at least three years of pertinent work experience, or a Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy with post-graduate training or at least two years of relevant work experience.
  • Requires licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Massachusetts and/or eligible for licensure in the state of Massachusetts by the hire date. Applicant can be licensed in another state and pending reciprocation.
  • Deep knowledge of medications, their effects, drug interactions, medical procedures and therapies, diagnosis and disease states required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with hospital staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, colleagues, and others.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize essential tasks and meet deadlines.
  • An organized work style and ability to keep well written documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess self-management skills and require little to no supervision.
  • Must be a self-starter, self-motivating, have a strong work ethic and must have the ability to identify issues or opportunities that require attention and change.
  • Must possess and exhibit process improvement skills and acumen.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with Microsoft programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers.
