About The Position

The Ambulance Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing and ensuring the efficient operation of the ambulance department. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of Nebraska state statutes, rules, regulations, and protocols related to emergency medical services (EMS). The Ambulance Supervisor must be available 24/7 to address both emergent and non-emergent department and patient concerns. The role also involves performing Emergency Medical Technician duties, including patient assessments, treatments, and procedures in accordance with Nebraska state regulations and protocols. Maintaining patient confidentiality, proper communication, and accurate record-keeping are essential. The position requires sound decision-making, problem-solving skills, and the ability to interact with various individuals and agencies. Maintaining the cleanliness of equipment and operational areas is also a responsibility.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Nebraska state statutes, rules, regulations, and protocols related to emergency medical services (EMS).
  • Must be available 24/7 for all matters emergent or non-emergent regarding the department/patient concerns.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • At least 5 years' experience as an EMT.
  • Valid Nebraska Driver's license and be insurable.
  • Current State Of Nebraska EMT licensure.
  • Current CPR (American Heart Association) certification.
  • Must be able to make rational, split decisions based on limited information.
  • Must be knowledgeable in patient assessments, treatments, and procedures pertaining to EMS in accordance with Nebraska state regulations and protocols.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital matters.
  • Must be able to report patient conditions to receiving hospitals via radio or cell phone, and observe proper radio etiquette.
  • Must use proper channels of communication/chain of command.
  • Must have sound decision making and problem solving skills based on data collected from patient assessments.
  • Must learn the main geographical area of operations and surrounding areas including all housing projects, rural homes, receiving hospitals, businesses, roadways, etc.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with patients, family members of patient, and the general public.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and have flexibility to changing situations.
  • Must pass background check, physical, and pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and ensure the efficient operation of the ambulance department.
  • Maintain schedule of all employees and updates as necessary.
  • Create, maintain, and submit quarterly reports.
  • Ensure employees keep accurate patient transport/care logs and complete eNARSIS and EHR reports.
  • Attend all supervisory meetings as required.
  • Network with other directors/departments to ensure smooth workflow and continuity of case management.
  • Maintain equipment/supplies or designate the appropriate personnel.
  • Provide guidance and/or disciplinary action as needed.
  • Handle all complaints from patients, patient's family members, and/or the community regarding ambulance calls.
  • Hire appropriate licensed/certified personnel to maintain adequate emergency services coverage.
  • Attend leadership training.
  • Maintain personnel records.
  • Make rational, split decisions based on limited information.
  • Submit and approve employee time sheets and leave requests.
  • Perform patient assessments, treatments, and procedures pertaining to EMS in accordance with Nebraska state regulations and protocols.
  • Maintain Nebraska state EMT license and current CPR (AHA) certification biannually.
  • Attend all mandatory training pertaining to the upkeep of EMT certification to include the minimum amount of CEU's as required by the state.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital matters.
  • Report patient conditions to receiving hospitals via radio or cell phone, and observe proper radio etiquette.
  • Use proper channels of communication/chain of command.
  • Maintain good time and attendance records and participate in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Make sound decisions and problem-solving based on data collected from patient assessments.
  • Interact with patients, medical staff at receiving facilities, members of the Tribe, general public, IHS facilities, providers, and officials of county, state, and federal agencies.
  • Learn the main geographical area of operations and surrounding areas including all housing projects, rural homes, receiving hospitals, businesses, roadways, etc.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward position and co-workers.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the ambulance, all EMS equipment, and office/garage spaces.
  • Maintain accurate patient care/transport logs and complete eNARSIS and EHR reports within the required 72-hour time period.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
