About The Position

Wheeler is accepting applications for an internship opportunity to work with our AIC (Alternative in the Community) program. This program offers community-based intervention services for adults involved with the court or probation. The program uses a curriculum-driven, evidence-based model designed to assess the needs of each individual and reduce their involvement in the criminal justice system. Services include: Substance use intervention, Trauma groups, Skill building, Employment Skills Group, Case management, Educational, basic needs and vocational supports, and Gender-responsive programming. We serve adults in New Britain, Bristol, Meriden, and Middletown. Adults in this program are referred by the Office of Adult Probation, the court or parole. We will be accepting 4 students per semester.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the AIC (Alternative in the Community) program.
  • Provide community-based intervention services for adults involved with the court or probation.
  • Utilize a curriculum-driven, evidence-based model to assess individual needs and reduce criminal justice system involvement.
  • Support services including substance use intervention, trauma groups, skill building, employment skills, case management, educational, basic needs, and vocational support.
  • Engage in gender-responsive programming.
