About The Position

OmniCable is seeking an Allocations Specialist to join its Purchasing Department. The role works collaboratively with Sales and Distribution Center (DC) teams to use inventory efficiently at order entry and reports to the Allocations Manager. The specialist analyzes master-reel wire and cable inventory to determine efficient cuts for customer orders, consolidates shipments using nearby warehouses and fewer shipping points, and balances customer requirements with minimizing wire waste and retaining suitable lengths for future sales. The role also supports OmniCable’s just-in-time service model and broader Operations objectives.

Requirements

• Ability to work in an office setting at a computer terminal for eight hours a day.
• Comfort communicating with individuals and teams remotely by phone or email.
• Analytical skills and ability to consider operational factors such as freight costs, transit time, and order profitability when making business decisions.
• Ability to work at a fast pace with high volumes while maintaining attention to detail.
• Persistence in following up with the Sales team to meet order-fulfillment demands on time.
• Ability to multitask consistently throughout the day.
• In-depth understanding of distribution process flow and operational needs at order assignment.
• Strong geographic understanding of order origin and destination points for cost-effective freight decisions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• General wire knowledge.
• Proficiency with basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and equivalent work experience.
• Prior experience allocating at the Distribution Center site level.

Responsibilities

• Make day-to-day item allocation decisions that satisfy customer orders while preserving suitable lengths for future sales.
• Consolidate shipments using nearby warehouse locations and minimizing shipping points to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Assign orders to Distribution teams promptly to support the just-in-time service model.
• Communicate inventory decisions that affect service or order profitability to the Sales team.
• Discard unsellable wire lengths at the time of assignment using inventory control methods.
• Collaborate with the Sales team on large or complex orders to ensure the best inventory is used before order placement.
• Communicate and collaborate with DC leadership on special instructions and requirements for order assignments.
• Research customer return requests and approve or disapprove them.
• Assist with overall Operations department objectives as needed.
• Work with other departments to ensure proper order execution.
