About The Position

This position involves teaching Allied Health and Nursing courses, requiring a strong background in geriatric or chronic care and a minimum of 5 years in a full-time nursing-related career. The teacher will be responsible for ensuring student safety, employing sound instructional practices, managing the classroom effectively, and providing guidance to promote student welfare and development. The role also includes preparing lesson plans, maintaining records, attending conferences, and collaborating with administrators and other staff. Additional duties involve supervising extracurricular activities, serving as a career tech student organization advisor, acquiring certifications for student credentialing, and facilitating student transitions to the workplace. The teacher will also collaborate with middle school staff, mentor new teachers, and assist in curriculum selection.

Requirements

  • Ohio Registered Nurse Licensure required
  • 2 Years geriatric or chronic care experience required
  • Required minimum of 5 years in a full time Nursing related career employed and/or instructing required
  • Required to obtain a 2 Year Provisional Career Tech Workforce Development and/or 5 Year Advanced Career Tech Workforce Development license to teach Allied Health & Nursing Course of Study, CTE program code JM, Diversified Health Occupations code (070998) and Nurse Assisting code (070303)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all areas of the Nursing/Medical fields such as hospitals, clinics, doctor’s office, home care, nursing homes and others.
  • Experience in team planning
  • Be able to show evidence of a willingness to supervise co-curricular and healthcare capstone related activities within a school setting and outside of a school setting in the medical field/work environment
  • Knowledge of academic area and various teaching methodologies
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Effective, active listening skills
  • Organizational and problem solving skills, record keeping skills and classroom management skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic first aid
  • Ability to submit grades and attendance electronically

Nice To Haves

  • NATCEP experience and TTT Certification preferred
  • 1 Full year experience as RN in nursing home preferred (Program Coordinator)
  • Certification in Medical Assisting preferred
  • Experience in teaching preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety of all students
  • Teach and evaluate the students using sound instructional practices
  • Effectively manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment, disciplining students when necessary
  • Prepare clear and timely lesson plans
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required
  • Provide guidance to students, which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development
  • Attend parent/teacher conferences
  • Distribute homework assignments
  • Ensure students are learning all subject material by testing, quizzing, or evaluating student projects on a regular basis
  • Provide complete lesson plans for substitute
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards and conferences to discuss student progress
  • Observe ethics of the teaching profession
  • Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Refer students suspected of learning disabilities for diagnosis on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required
  • Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and conduct
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
  • Act as a teacher, facilitator and information source in subject area specialty
  • Teach new concepts and facilitate different activities enabling students to learn in different ways
  • Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g. home and discipline situations, medical background and family history
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required
  • Refer attendance, health, and psychological emotional problems to Principal and/or Guidance Counselor
  • Attend professional growth seminars, workshops, etc., to keep current on relevant issues
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity of students
  • Register, promote and facilitate related career tech student organization as an extension to learning
  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined in the courses of study which have been approved by the Board of education
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting the state model learning outcomes
  • Implement instructional strategies content standards for subject matter area of expertise
  • Attend educational field trips and National Technical Honors Society events
  • Serve as career tech student organization advisor to HOSA regional, state and national events.
  • Attend and monitor students at HOSA events.
  • Acquire needed certifications for student industry credentialing and implement aligned certification standards and requirements in the classroom and lab.
  • Implement aligned in demand industry credentials in the healthcare field.
  • Facilitate student transitions to the workplace for early placement/shadowing/clinicals in school and post high school aligned opportunities.
  • Supervise and facilitate onsite and offsite aligned student projects.
  • Collaborate and partner with aligned Middle Level Health Science tech staff and students.
  • Act as a mentor for first year teachers as agreed upon
  • Organize various subject-specific programs with assigned building
  • Work closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices such as “team” teaching, semester projects, etc.
  • Act as department chairperson when requested and agreed upon
  • Serve as a role model for students
  • Assist in the selection & ordering of aligned content curriculum & resources: textbooks, equipment, services and other instructional materials
  • Serve on committee and co curricular activities as agreed upon
  • Supervise student teachers
  • Discipline students when necessary
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
  • Provide incentives and motivation to students
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, CTE Principal and/or Director of Career Tech Education
