About The Position

The Alarm Dispatcher role involves monitoring national radio traffic, recording events, and providing information to radio users. This position also monitors intrusion detection systems using automated alarm monitoring software, initiating responses based on defined criteria, and accurately capturing event information. The dispatcher will confirm the accuracy of data in the alarm database and interact with postal employees, customers, and police departments. Additionally, the role includes monitoring and processing after-hours phone traffic and carrying out specific site-related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a reliable means of communication (i.e., pager or phone).
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation (public or private).
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED. If not, must be willing to complete the GED program
  • Must be willing to participate in the Company’s pre-employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  • Ability to be an effective team member.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.
  • Courteous telephone manner.
  • Ability to use personal computer and enter data.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Customer service and service delivery orientation.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the Inspection Service’s national radio traffic, record events, provide information requested by radio users
  • Monitors intrusion detection systems using automated alarm monitoring software, initiate internal or police response based on defined criteria, accurately capture event information, confirm accuracy of data recorded in the alarm database, interact with postal employees including postal inspectors, postal customers, and police departments
  • Monitors and process after-hours phone traffic
  • Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for the assigned site
