Requirements

  • Possess a Stationary Engineer License at time of application (required)
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with industrial HVAC and utility systems
  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Four (4) years of experience in Stationary Engineering
  • A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
  • This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's license at the time of application
  • Requires EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (CFC) at time of application
  • Required for handling refrigerants Requires City and County of Denver Stationary Engineer License at the time of application. (If relocating from out of state, an equivalent license will be accepted; however, the applicant must obtain a Stationary Engineer License before the end of the six-month probationary period.)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of boiler operation, maintenance, and safety.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
  • This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in a complex industrial environment.
  • Candidates must be able to: Lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds routinely, and occasionally heavier items with assistance or appropriate lifting equipment.
  • Climb ladders and stairs, and work at heights or on elevated platforms.
  • Work in confined spaces, including entry into boiler hatches and tight mechanical areas, in compliance with safety protocols and confined space entry procedures.
  • Perform tasks that involve bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching overhead, and prolonged standing or walking.
  • Safely operate and maneuver heavy tools and equipment used in the repair and rebuilding of pumps, motors, valves, and other critical mechanical systems.
  • Tolerate exposure to noise, vibration, varying temperatures, and environments with dust, moisture, or chemical substances (with appropriate PPE provided).
  • Maintain alertness and situational awareness in an active airport facility, including areas with restricted access and moving equipment or vehicles.

  • Technical Competence and Technical Problem Solving – Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies systems malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, and practices, and of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce hydronic heating and cooling

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, operates, and repairs building and facility equipment related to the heating and cooling hydronic networks, control systems, which includes mechanical components such as chillers, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers and cooling towers.
  • Performs routine and non-routine preventative maintenance based on operating procedures and regularly scheduled maintenance activities of equipment, and regularly inspects facilities, buildings, and grounds for unsafe or malfunctioning systems and conditions
  • Assists other trades personnel in the maintenance and repair of building and facility infrastructure and equipment, which includes the installation and modification of equipment;
  • Plans and leads the maintenance and installation of major building and facility equipment repairs and related activities within a variety of specific trades areas, which includes the evaluation and recommendation of service upgrades;
  • Responds to building and facility tenant complaints regarding safety issues and environmental control conditions, which includes following up on work orders, and prioritizing service calls
  • Assists in coordinating maintenance efforts with outside contractors and technicians regarding contracted service agreements.
  • Provides input to supervisors and managers responsible for planning and controlling annual budgets; Orders parts and supplies as required and maintains stock and inventory control.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports, which includes estimating materials, labor, and equipment costs
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining BACnet/LON networks and Metasys BAS.
  • Ensures documentation and reporting of all maintenance activities and contributes to reliability and asset management systems
  • Independently performs comprehensive maintenance and rebuilds of mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, gear drives, and rotating assemblies.
  • Diagnoses and repairs complex problems in boilers, centrifugal and screw chillers, cooling towers, and plate/frame or shell-and-tube heat exchangers
  • Conducts precision alignments, vibration analysis, and thermal imaging to identify mechanical performance issues.
  • Oversees BAS operations and optimizes system performance using trend analysis and scheduling controls.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting of VFDs, control valves, damper actuators, and pressure sensors
  • Develops and executes work plans for equipment overhauls, seasonal startups, and shutdowns.
  • Evaluates mechanical systems for wear, efficiency loss, or potential failures and recommends repair or replacement strategies.
  • May lead small crews or projects and mentor Engineer I staff on complex mechanical tasks
  • May be required to be on-call to address emergent needs, respond to after- hour calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours.
  • Responsible for the energy management systems that overlay Central Utility Plant equipment controls, and equipment maintenance schedules
