Directs, operates, and maintains powerhouse equipment on an assigned shift. This role involves operating and instructing powerhouse workers in the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of boilers, furnaces, and auxiliary equipment. The Stationary Engineer will also make rounds of the powerhouse, read meters and gauges, inspect equipment for malfunctions, and perform necessary repairs and adjustments. Responsibilities include monitoring power consumption, starting and stopping generators and other equipment, adjusting electronic controls, and managing the flow of steam or water. The role also requires maintaining a powerhouse log, recording various readings and maintenance activities, and ensuring sufficient fuel supply. Additionally, the position involves operating computer equipment and specialized programs for data management and equipment control, as well as maintaining gas turbines, compressors, condensate polishers, and water softeners. The Stationary Engineer may also be responsible for cleaning plant and equipment, testing water, adding treatment chemicals, answering telephones and radios, relaying messages, and potentially training student employees or employees in lower pay grades. Assisting other tradespersons may also be required.
