About The Position

The Airport Operations Technician performs duties related to the maintenance and repair of airport facilities and equipment, responds to emergency and non-emergency incidents, and operates various equipment on the airfield. This role involves communication with the control tower, snow and ice removal, and participation in aircraft rescue and firefighting training. The position also includes duties related to compliance with FAR Part 139 and TSA Part 1542 regulations, such as issuing NOTAMs, Field Condition Reports, and managing airport badging and security duties. The role requires the ability to work independently or in coordination with others and may involve irregular work hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in performing firefighting or general maintenance duties
  • Minnesota Class “D” driver’s license at the time of hire
  • Ability to obtain a Minnesota Class “B” driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history check
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearance for working at an airport
  • Must be able to show proof of U.S. Citizenship or possess a valid U.S. Government issued work visa

Nice To Haves

  • Building Utility Maintenance or a form of Firefighting Certification or specialized maintenance degree (i.e., plumbing, electrical, etc) preferred.
  • Preference given for airport experience.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents involving aircraft operating at Rochester International Airport.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of the Airport’s facilities and equipment.
  • Operate a radio for communication with the control tower and safely operate a variety of equipment on the airfield.
  • Carry and operate a two-way company radio for company communications.
  • Perform snow and ice removal duties, making independent decisions when necessary.
  • Drive aircraft rescue and firefighting equipment and operate fire extinguishment equipment.
  • Operate a wide variety of equipment including mowers, tractors, aircraft rescue/firefighting equipment, heavy trucks, heavy brooms, front loaders, and other snow removal equipment.
  • Participate in regular aircraft rescue and firefighting training and respond to simulated and actual emergencies.
  • Perform duties and training associated with FAR Part 139 compliance, including issuing Notices to Airman (NOTAMs), Field Condition Reports (Ficons), and airfield safety and inspection requirements.
  • Perform duties and training associated with TSA Part 1542, including Airport Badging and TSA Enrollment.
