About The Position

Under general direction, this internship coordinates and performs airport operations in various areas such as airside, construction, security, and fleet maintenance. The intern will ensure facilities and support systems are appropriately maintained and functioning properly, monitor airside operations for safety and efficiency, and ensure all activities comply with applicable rules, regulations, directives, policies, and procedures. This role implements programs and performs projects that ensure safe and efficient airport operations, and handles airport customer and tenant service issues and requests. A strong emphasis is placed on being a self-starter and performing work with little to no supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Employment with the Airport is contingent upon an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration.
  • The Grand Junction Regional Airport conducts pre-employment, post-offer drug and alcohol screening, and random drug screening during employment.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills the daily duties as assigned under the Airport Certification Manual (ACM) and FAR Part 139.
  • Coordinates and performs airfield grounds maintenance with heavy equipment such as grading of safety areas, weed removal, trenching, and general airfield grooming.
  • Coordinates and performs airfield inspections and is responsible for posting Notices to Air Missions (NOTAMs) in accordance with FAR Part 139, work orders, and maintenance/ security inspections on gates and fence lines.
  • Coordinates and performs repair of potholes with cold or hot mix asphalt; pavement and tie-down maintenance and repair; paints markings, repairs and replaces signs and posts; sweeps paved areas.
  • Coordinates and performs wildlife hazard control/mitigation with the legal use of firearms.
  • Utilizes a computer to log all inspections, work, filing of NOTAMs, writing emails, conducting training, and anything else assigned.
  • Assists with Airport security-related duties as requested.
  • Carries a two-way radio.
  • Operate in a competent, safe manner a variety of vehicles and equipment required to perform duties, including, but not limited to, firearms, automobiles, backhoes, pickup/utility trucks, dump trucks, chain/trimming saws, miscellaneous power and hand tools, grader, weed eaters, lawn edger’s, loader, riding and manual lawn mowers.
  • Coordinates and performs general maintenance on equipment, such as safety, oil, and operation checks. Cleans the interior and exterior of equipment weekly.
  • Performs general maintenance and minor repair on heavy equipment, such as graders, front-end loaders, and snowplows.
  • Repairs and maintains other related equipment.
  • Performs all other work as required.
