About The Position

The City and County of Denver is seeking a strong leader to join the Airside Operations department at Denver International Airport (DEN) as an Airport Operations Manager. This role is responsible for managing and controlling the day-to-day airfield operations to ensure the efficient movement of aircraft and the safety of all airport users. The position requires strong relationship-building skills with various airport stakeholders and a solid understanding of airfield operational duties.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of airport operations experience.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Willingness to be available 24/7/365.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management, Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience of the type and at the level of Airport Operations Officer – Airfield and Ramp Tower supporting field operations in a medium or large hub civilian airport or military facility.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • FBI criminal background check is required.
  • Employees are required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain FBI clearance.
  • Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Part 107 UAS Remote Pilot license.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Experience working in or around ICS (ICS Certification a plus).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in drone operations, including mapping and inspections across the facility and airfield.
  • Manage airfield and terminal operations to ensure efficient flow, safety, and adherence to applicable federal and local rules and regulations.
  • Supervise the work of other operational staff involved in the efficient movement of aircraft and the safety of the traveling public.
  • Manage ongoing inspection of airfield operations and facilities to ensure compliance with the Airport Certification Manual under Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139 and other applicable federal regulations.
  • Interpret and apply all information from FAA Advisory Circulars.
  • Act as Incident Commander for all airport emergencies, including aircraft alerts, snow emergencies, severe weather, irregular operations, security breaches, train system shutdowns, medical emergencies, power failures, hazardous materials incidents, bomb threats, and other terminal/concourse or landside roadway incidents that may impact passenger flow.
  • Negotiate and coordinate with FAA, contractors, airlines, Airport Security, engineering, maintenance, tenants, and others to balance the needs of each group to optimize aircraft and vehicle flow rates while accomplishing critical airport maintenance activities with minimal impact on airport operations.
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute the airport snow plan for each snow event, initiating and canceling all levels of Airport Snow Alerts and Snow Emergencies.
  • Monitor runway conditions for snow contamination and coordinate its removal.
  • Ensure aircraft flow rate is optimized by coordinating snow removal operations with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
  • Issue NOTAMs as needed.
  • Follow the requirements of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and determine local, state, and federal resources necessary to effectively manage emergencies.
  • Provide tactical supervision of employees from other airport divisions during emergency and non-routine events.
  • Supervise one or more collateral duties or special projects such as airport certification and compliance, department training, airport construction, snow and ice control, vehicle coordinator, weather systems coordinator, and section scheduler.
  • Develop or modify work plans, methods, and procedures; determine work priorities and develop work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage.
  • Provide work instruction and assist employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments; encourage innovation.
  • Assign and distribute work, review work for accuracy and completeness, and return assignments with recommendations for proper completion.
  • Anticipate and resolve problems encountered during daily operations and determine appropriate solutions; promote teamwork; encourage regular communication, inform staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization.
  • Document causes for disciplinary action and initiate letters of reprimand and make formal recommendations for disciplinary action.
  • Respond to formal and informal employee grievances and prepare written responses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
