About The Position

Airport Operations Assistant positions maintain airport facilities and equipment; relay airport information to the public; enforce airport rules and regulations; operate radio communications equipment; assist in the administration of a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program; coordinate resolutions to user concerns; collect fees and generate invoices; conduct airport inspections; coordinate special events; assist in the supervision of airport contractors; respond to airport safety hazards and discrepancies; disseminate Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS); document airport conditions; perform minor maintenance; coordinate responses to airport emergencies; use computer applications including SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; and perform other duties as assigned. Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).

Requirements

  • One year of full-time experience in general aviation airport operations including airport management, airport operational maintenance, air traffic control, or a closely related field
  • Possession of a Private or Commercial Pilot's Certificate with an Instrument Rating or Military Aviator Rating
  • Associate's Degree in Airport Flight Operations, Aviation Management, or a closely related field
  • A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire

Nice To Haves

  • American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Certification
  • Airline Transport Pilot and other aviation related ratings
  • Proficiency in the use of computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
  • Aircraft rescue/firefighting experience
