About The Position

San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) is recruiting for an Airport Maintenance Supervisor and Senior Maintenance Worker. All vacancies are located in the Facilities and Engineering Division at SJC. SJC operates seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. This position may be assigned to work any days of the week or be assigned to any of the three shifts. Requirements

  • Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate).
  • Four (4) years of experience in building or public works maintenance.
  • Two (2) years supervision or lead direction experience in a large facility at the level of a Maintenance Worker II or higher (for Supervisor).
  • At least one (1) year experience providing lead direction to a crew engaged in semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair of parks, facilities and infrastructure; groundskeeping; or landscaping (for Senior Worker).
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
  • An FCC Class III operator's license must be obtained within a reasonable time after employment (for Supervisor).
  • Possession of a valid State of California Class C driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California (may be required).
  • Possession of a valid State of California Class A or B driver's license with applicable endorsements (may be required).
  • Federal law requires all employees to provide verification of their eligibility to work in this country.
  • Candidates are required to satisfactorily complete and pass a fingerprint based Criminal History Records Check prior to being considered for a position in this class at the Airport.
  • This Airport position requires a background check and a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) check.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and oversight of staff and work efforts, including planning, scheduling, prioritizing and assigning work for special construction activities.
  • Ensuring staff is appropriately trained to maintenance Airport Terminal Buildings, including plumbing systems, sump pumps, sanitary lift pumps, and restrooms.
  • Oversee landscaping and grounds, including use of larger landscaping equipment, sweepers, scrubbers, weed abatement program, and irrigation repairs.
  • Maintenance and repair of buildings, new construction.
  • Installing and repairing roofing systems including single ply, built up roofs and drainage systems.
  • Installation, maintenance and minor reconstruction of roadways, Airport movement and ramp areas, parking lots, chain link fencing, turf maintenance, area seeding and planting, tree trimming and upgrades to landscaping, irrigation systems, and roadways.
  • Efficient performance, monitoring, and assigning of corrective maintenance.
  • Efficient performance, monitoring, and assigning preventive maintenance.
  • Development of work priorities and the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) program.
  • Budget monitoring and recommendations.
  • Development of various maintenance programs.
  • Safety and training as it relates to assigned staff.
  • Evaluating staff performance, write evaluations, and make recommendations for hiring.
  • Leading maintenance work programs, special projects and assisting the Airport Maintenance Manager/designee on a daily basis in facilitating these programs.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members in a lead capacity, fostering collaborative and professional work environment.
  • Repairing damaged walls, construction of new walls, repairing automatic door systems, and door hardware.
  • Installing and repairing floor coverings including carpeting, ceramic tile, and composition tile and wood.
  • Oversight and management of special projects, work orders, parts acquisition, expense tracking and various service needs related to the maintenance and operations of the airport’s physical assets.
