About The Position

The Customer Experience Arts Program team is seeking an Airport Art Program Coordinator for a limited-duration role. The selected candidate will help coordinate ongoing musical performances throughout SAN's terminals. No day is the same; from working with artists and performers to producing videos and engaging media materials this is an exciting role. Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with major in art, performing arts, art history, arts administration, fine arts museum studies, conservation, public administration, communications, digital or multimedia, marketing, music technology, journalism or other closely related field;
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience involving art handling, exhibition design, collections management, conservation technician work, or the development, management, coordination or administration of civic or community-based arts & culture programs, public or fine arts programs, or operating and troubleshooting audiovisual equipment, sound systems, cameras, lighting, and video editing software.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move artworks, equipment, and materials up to 20-50 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background investigation, training, and testing required for employment and operation of Authority and San Diego County physical security, surveillance, radio and telecommunications equipment.
  • This position is part of our School 2 SAN program, which supports early-career professionals in gaining hands-on experience in public service. Candidates may qualify with a relevant degree even if they have not yet met the minimum years of experience.
  • Project coordination: Plans, schedules, and coordinates Arts Program projects, activities, events, and operational needs; manages multiple priorities, deadlines, resources, and stakeholders to support successful implementation.
  • Arts Program Knowledge & Technical Proficiency: Demonstrates knowledge and practical skills relevant to assigned Arts Program activities, including exhibitions, art maintenance, performing arts, media, equipment, technology, and related operational practices.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with artists, performers, vendors, contractors, Airport staff, and other stakeholders. Prepares clear, accurate, and appropriate documentation, correspondence, presentations, and public-facing materials as required.
  • Problem-Solving/Agility: Exercises sound judgment and responds effectively to changing priorities, operational challenges, technical issues, scheduling conflicts, and other unforeseen circumstances within a dynamic airport environment.
  • Attention to Detail & Follow-Through: Maintains accuracy, organization, and consistency in work products, schedules, documentation, equipment, and program activities; follows through on assignments and commitments and ensures that work is completed as planned.
  • Relationship Management: Builds and maintains productive relations with stakeholders, identifies and relays information, ideas and problems and ideas based on collaborative solutions.
  • Leveraging Technology: Effective use of technology, information systems, and specialized tools applicable to Arts Program operations.
  • Driving is an Essential Function: This role requires regular driving as a critical part of performing work-related duties, specifically involving the operation of Airport Authority vehicles. A valid California driver’s license is required, along with strict adherence to all traffic laws and safety regulations. Applicants must maintain an acceptable driving record to operate Authority vehicles. Compliance with Airport Authority vehicle use policies, including safety protocols and reporting requirements, is mandatory. Applicants must acknowledge that driving Airport Authority vehicles is an essential function of this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in art, multimedia, performing arts, art history, arts administration, museum studies, conservation, public administration, marketing or a related field.
  • OSHA safety certification and/or lift operation certification.
  • Professional certification in project management or records management (e.g., CAPM, PMP, or Certified Records Manager).
  • Professional certification in audiovisual systems, live sound, or digital media technology (e.g., CTS – Certified Technology Specialist or equivalent).
  • Professional certification in Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe Certified Professional or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates scheduling, logistics, and on-site technical support for the Airport's in-house music and performing arts programs, including performer schedules, concert staffing, audiovisual equipment, and operational support during performances and special events.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots audiovisual, sound, recording, photography, and related technical equipment used for Arts Program performances, exhibitions, events, and other public programs.
  • Produces photography, videography, graphic design, and written content to support the promotion and documentation of Airport Arts programs, performances, exhibitions, special events, and other initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the Customer Experience Department and other Airport stakeholders to develop promotional materials, exhibition signage, social media content, presentations, interpretive materials, artist biographies, and other public-facing communications consistent with Airport branding.
  • Supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of temporary exhibitions, exhibition openings, public programs, and other Arts Program initiatives through research, content development, logistics coordination, media production, and on-site event support.
  • Maintains and organizes media assets, program schedules, equipment inventories, digital files, project documentation, and related records; assists with tracking program participation, audience engagement, and other performance metrics.
  • Supports the development, organization, and maintenance of the Arts Program's digital and physical document library, including SharePoint, and assists with records management, archiving, retention, and consistent document management practices.
  • Operate and drive Authority vehicles throughout the campus to transport art and special event equipment.
