About The Position

This Airline Pilot position is assigned to the Justice Prisoner Air Transportation System (JPATS). Positions will be located in either Kansas City, Missouri, or Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at management’s discretion. The pilot operates Boeing 737 aircraft and supports prisoner movement and other special operations. The work includes flying U.S. Marshals Service-owned or operated large turbine-powered, turboprop, and reciprocating multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft. Flights support prisoner movements, special operations, patrol and reconnaissance, and ammunition cargo transport. Pilots operate in varied terrain and airfields, under visual or instrument flight rules, during day and night, within the continental United States, over water, and in U.S. territories and foreign countries. They ensure flight operations comply with applicable FAA regulations and USMS policies, and help ensure aircraft airworthiness by reviewing or completing maintenance reports, aircraft logs, and trip reports, identifying irregularities, and taking appropriate corrective action. The position requires a current FAA Airline Transport Pilot certificate with a Multi-Engine Land rating and at least one qualifying large turbojet or turboprop type rating, or an appropriate military rating. Applicants must meet specified flight-hour and recent-flight-experience thresholds and demonstrate at least one year of relevant knowledge and skills at the GS-12 level. A current first- or second-class FAA medical certificate is required. A Boeing or Airbus type rating and recent B-737 Pilot-in-Command experience are quality ranking factors, not screening requirements. Applicants may not substitute education for specialized experience at the GS-13 level.
