About The Position

The Airframe Sheet Metal Technician is responsible for ensuring that aircraft and equipment is functioning safely and efficiently. This role involves fabricating, assembling, and installing prototype equipment used in research and development on a wide variety of aircraft, from single airplanes to complex, multi-engine jets and helicopters. The technician will interpret military technical manuals, technical orders, modification work orders, and blueprints, and will install prototype equipment on aircraft, making necessary modifications to the airframe. Coordination with project engineer personnel is crucial, providing technical assistance throughout projects. The role also includes performing sheet metal repairs, working with various thickness of aluminum, steel alloys, stainless steel, copper, brass, and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Operation of sheet metal shop equipment such as protractors, calipers, gauges, crimping tools/machines, forming machines, lathes, milling machines, saws, drilling presses, and welding machines is required. The technician must understand and interpret blueprints, schematics, and rudimentary drawings. Other related duties may be assigned to meet organizational needs.

Requirements

• High School Diploma / Equivalent
• Minimum five (5) years recent and total experience in Airframe repair
• Demonstrated ability to fabricate complex items from rudimentary drawings or verbal direction
• Ability to understand, interpret and apply technical manual (TM) instructions as well as other approved sources of technical information
• Beginner to intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to enter data accurately into databases
• Ability to understand and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff
• Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
• Ability to follow a process
• Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up
• Strong decision analysis and problem solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions
• Must be able to communicate issues to management
• Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to goals
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
• High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently
• Ability to multi-task
• Climbs on top of and down from aircraft using aircraft hand/foot holds
• Capable of lifting up to 25 lbs. overhead
• On feet all day
• Walk up to 2 miles per day
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance
• Must have a shadowed toolbox and a complete set of Airframe Sheet Metal Tools

Nice To Haves

• Ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs
• Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred
• Familiarity with Y-Tech’s policies and procedures

Responsibilities

• Fabricates, assembles, and installs prototype equipment used in research and development on a large variety of aircraft.
• Interprets military technical manuals, technical orders, modification work orders and blue prints.
• Installs prototype equipment on aircraft and make modifications to the existing airframe to accommodate installations.
• Coordinates with project engineer personnel throughout the project providing technical assistance.
• Performs sheet metal repairs to a variety of aircraft, possessing an in-depth knowledge of sheet metal materials and repair techniques.
• Works with various thickness of aluminum, steel alloys, stainless steel, copper, brass and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the fabrication of production metal parts for aircraft modifications.
• Operates tools and equipment associated with sheet metal shop operation such as protractors, calipers, gauges, crimping tools/machines, forming machines, lathes, milling machines, saws, drilling presses, gas and heli-arc welding machine.
• Understands and interprets blueprints, schematics and rudimentary drawings.
