About The Position

The team will augment services provided by Air Force military personnel to modify, maintain, inspect, control corrosion, overhaul, repair, regenerate and store various weapon systems, related components, missiles, engines, ground support equipment and vehicles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 4 years of applicable experience
  • Extensive knowledge of slings, shackles, spreader bars and applicable OSHA & ANSI/ASME regulations and standards.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Remove, inspect, clean and install components and parts
  • Repair, adjust, and install components and parts and to prepare serviceable aircraft parts for return into the SBSS supply system.
  • Hoist aircraft and install shoring under airframes and/or components on multiple MDS's for short-and long-term storage requirements.
  • Prepare aircraft for final demilitarization by identifying and removing known or suspected hazardous materials to include asbestos, various fluids, and sealed/unsealed radioactive components.
  • Remove major components of aircraft structure or systems such as control surfaces, fairing, access panels, doors, hatches, landing gear assemblies, engines, activator units, tubing, electrical wiring, and control cables.
  • Drain oil and fuel, and flushes tanks.
  • Identifies and removes known or suspected environmental hazards including but not limited to friable asbestos and sealed and unsealed radiation sources during demilitarization operations.
  • During disassembly and reassembly operations, makes condition inspections, including inspections for loose wiring on components, frayed insulation, chaffing, and damaged tubing.
  • Reports unusual wear or damage if observed.
  • Corrects defects noted or brings to the attention of others for corrective action.
  • Routes components and parts to specialty shops as required.
  • Installs, aligns, and adjusts fewer complex aircraft systems, subsystems, assemblies, and components such as ejection seats, nuclear shielding, or similar self-contained systems that have few adjustments and little interaction with other systems.
  • Uses and maintains various types of power and hand tools to accomplish assigned tasks. Sets up scaffolds, ladders, stands, and other equipment to prepare the work site as required.
  • Lift aircraft and/or components and installs support fixtures on multiple MDS aircraft as directed by process order/engineering.
  • Evaluate multiple MDS aircraft configurations and determines center of gravity and proper sling and rigging hardware selections based on weight calculations and determines the safest and most appropriate lifting method.
  • Install support fixtures on multiple MDS aircraft during various stages of parts reclamation and disposal prep activities. Reads and interprets engineering drawings for placement of aircraft support fixtures.
  • Follows detailed procedures such as technical orders that specify task sequences, tolerances, etc. Selects the proper tool for the job, e.g., determining whether to use pneumatic wrench, speed wrench, ratchet wrench, or end wrenches, and the pattern of tightening and amount of torque to apply to ensure a solid connection without over stressing parts.
  • Locates and corrects problems such as improper travel, or excessive friction or play between parts. Uses and accounts for measuring instruments such as torque wrenches, micrometers, go-no-go gauges, multimeters, feeler gauges, and tension meters to accomplish assigned duties. After repairs, performs limited operational checks.
  • Other duties as assigned
